Our community loves Splash Mob! Covered in an Arizona Republic article, sponsored by 3TV, and covered by local television news channels - Splash Mob is exciting and fun! Come run or walk and make a difference for kids who desperately need your support. Participants will be cooled along the way by our "Splashers" - who will use Super Soakers and water balloons to reduce the impact of our Arizona summer swelter! Each participant will also bring 2 items of non-perishable healthy snacks to Children First Academy, a local non-profit school dedicated to helping homeless children. All proceeds and donations will go to the school. Our inaugural event in 2011 topped expectations with 357 runners who donated more than 2,000 items of clothing and raised more than $5,000 for the school. And that was with only 3 months of planning! Homelessness is a devastating experience for families. It disrupts virtually every aspect of family life, damaging physical and emotional health, and interfering with a child's development and education.Children First Academy is a Title I school with 300 students, grades K-8, being educated on its grounds. 68% of the students are homeless and 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. The school provides stability and hope for kids amid a chaotic world of homelessness and hopelessness. Children First Academy works to provide the necessities, care and attention that so many homeless children lack. Children First Academy inspires the motivation to learn by engaging students as critical thinkers, problem solvers and active citizens; they strive to serve the whole child by providing hope, fostering strength and facilitating self-determination.
