The Boy Scouts of America Grand Canyon Council Celebrates 100 Years of Scouting with Community Pow-Wow Open to the Public November 20\ \ The Boy Scouts of America’s Grand Canyon Council (GCC), an independent nonprofit organization chartered by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in Arizona, is celebrating 100 years of Scouting! To mark this centennial milestone, the Grand Canyon Council is hosting three community events for families across Arizona. \ \ The schedule kicked off on July 24 with a community picnic at Camp Geronimo. Now, the Scouts are gearing up for the second event in the Centennial Celebrations series. \ \ On Saturday, Nov. 20 GCC will host the Centennial Pow-Wow, sponsored by the Order of the Arrow and held at the Heard Scout Pueblo. The Pow-Wow will showcase displays and host activities centered around the history of Scouting.\ \ “The Centennial Celebration Pow-Wow gives us an opportunity to show appreciation to our Scouts and the community at large, while meeting, socializing, and honoring our history,” said Andy Price, CEO and Scout Executive of GCC. \ \ The third Centennial Celebration event will also be held at the Heard Scout Pueblo. On Saturday, Dec. 11, GCC will host the Holiday Celebration, complete with luminaries, historic displays and more outdoor activities. Attendees will be able to snack on s’mores and sip hot chocolate and ciders, while strolling a trail illuminated by holiday lights, then head inside to check out recent accomplishments of Arizona Scouts and play games with the whole family. \ \ Each event is open to the public, not just families involved in Scouts.\ \ Price added, “This anniversary is a major accomplishment; for 100 years GCC has been supporting the future leaders of Arizona, providing outdoor adventures, teaching them outdoor skills and instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.”\ \ Scouting in Arizona started with a handful of troops scattered across the state and over the last 100 years has grown to serve
