Discovering Judaism presented by Temple Emanuel of Tempe

Discovering Judaism,” Temple Emanuel of Tempe’s year-long “Introduction to Judaism” course, begins online on Sunday, October 3rd. \ \ In order to bring multiple perspectives to students, TEOT is partnering this year with a Reform and Reconstructionist synagogue in San Diego, with four Rabbis teaching including Rabbi Cookie Lea Olshein, Senior Rabbi at TEOT, Rabbi Devorah Marcus and Rabbi Benj Fried of Temple Emanuel of San Diego, and Rabbi Yael Ridberg, Congregation Dor Hadash. \ \ Consisting of 21 sessions, this in-depth course is taught on Sunday mornings from 10:00-11:30am (9:00-10:30am when Daylight Savings ends), with an optional extra hour of discussion/processing available to TEOT students to answer additional questions and dig even deeper. This cohort will also have special in-person programming available. (Students considering conversion are asked to participate in this special hour of local community-building.) \ \ Rabbi Olshein said, “With our new faculty, we are trying to create opportunities for everyone to safely learn from a variety of perspectives, while also offering local students in-person opportunities to connect with others on the same path. We believe this two-pronged approach will provide our students a broader exposure to Jewish beliefs as well as opportunities to act according to Jewish teachings and values.” \ \ Open to all, Discovering Judaism is designed for interfaith couples, adults those raising Jewish children, spiritual seekers, individuals considering conversion, and Jews who want a meaningful adult Jewish learning experience. No matter where students are on their journey with Judaism, this course is designed to be a safe and welcoming place for all to explore. TEOT’s programs welcome people from all backgrounds and are LGBTQ-friendly.   \ \ Topics covered will include Jewish holidays, life cycle celebrations, core beliefs, prayer, the Bible and other sacred texts, history, antisemitism and the Holocaust, Israel, the North Ame
